SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-198.01 NEW APPOINMENTS FOR AMSAT-NA HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 198.01 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD JULY 17, 1993 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-198.01 AMSAT-NA Officers Appointed AMSAT President, Bill Tynan (W3XO) today announced two new Vice Presidential appointments. Keith Baker (KB1SF) was appointed as Vice President for Strategic Planning. Keith will work closely with Board members and others to attempt to come up with a long rang plan for AMSAT after completion and launch of Phase 3D. As many may know, Keith is also an active member of the Phase 3D Develop- ment Team, responsible for planning and scheduling. So perhaps, this additional new assignment naturally follows. In a simultaneous move, Tynan also appointed Bruce Croskey (WA6JCD) as Vice President for Development. In the corporate lexicon, Development can be freely translated as "Fundraising". Bruce is a long time AMSAT member and is active on the satellites. He brings to his new AMSAT position a long history of experience in sales and promotion. /EX SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-198.02 AMSAT GROUP MEETS WITH K7UGA HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 198.02 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD JULY 17, 1993 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-198.02 AMSAT Group Meets With Barry Goldwater (K7UGA) On July 10, Bill Tynan W3XO joined Keith Baker (KB1SF), Bruce Croskey (WA6JCD), Bill Pasternak (WA6ITF) and Forrest Oden (N6ENV), and Charlie Justinak (W7GBI) at the Phoenix, Arizona home of Senator Barry Goldwater (K7UGA). Also present was a cameraman from Phoenix Channel 12. The purpose of this assemblage was to re-shoot some of portions of the Phase 3D video tape made by Senator Goldwater last year. This was, of course, necessitated by the configuration change forced on us by the European Space Agency. In addition to getting the desired footage with the new model of the space- craft constructed by Stan Wood (WA4NFY), Senator Goldwater added many kind words for AMSAT and its work. The revised version of the tape, which will also include footage being taken in Germany this summer of the construction of the full scale engineering model of Phase 3D, will be available for distribution this fall. /EX SB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-198.03 AMSAT OPS NET SCHEDULE HR AMSAT NEWS SERVICE BULLETIN 198.03 FROM AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD JULY 17, 1993 TO ALL RADIO AMATEURS BT BID: $ANS-198.03 AMSAT Operations Net Schedule AMSAT Operations Nets are planned for the following times. Continuous up-to-date information about AO-13 operations is always available on the beacons on 145.812 MHz and 2400.646 MHz in CW, RTTY and 400 bps PSK. Also, these bulletins are also posted to INTERNET, ANS bulletins, Packet, PACSATs, etc., and can also be found in many international newsletters. [G3RUH/DB2OS/VK5AGR] RS-10: K0BJ reports that he has heard TG9AJR on RS-10 since early July on a downlink frequency of 29.390 MHz. He also notes that during Field Day, the activity was so heavy on on RS-10 that it may have "max-ed out" the automatic gain control (agc). [K0BJ] AO-16: Operating normally. [WH6I] UO-22: Operating normally. [WH6I] KO-23: Operating normally. [WH6I] MIR: G3IOR reports that F6MIR sometimes picks up the microphone when MIR passes over Europe. The frequency used over Europe appears to 144.475 MHz. However, when the QRM becomes unbearable, F6MIR then switches to 145.875 MHz. G3IOR says that it appears that the cosmonauts are using a 25 watt ICOM tranceiver and they have never sounded stronger. [G3IOR] RS-12/13: G3IOR reports that sub-horizon passes have allowed GM4IHJ to work stations in Alaska, Russia, and Canada. GM4IHJ feels that these long haul DX contacts are due to Auroral E propagation. [G3IOR] The AMSAT NEWS Service (ANS) is looking for volunteers to contribute weekly OSCAR status reports. If you have a favorite OSCAR which you work on a regular basis and would like to contribute to this bulletin, please send your observations to WD0HHU at his CompuServe address of 70524,2272, on INTERNET at wd0hhu@amsat.org, or to his local packet BBS in the Denver, CO area, WD0HHU @ W0LJF.#NECO.CO.USA.NOAM. Also, if you find that the current set of orbital elements are not generating the correct AOS/LOS times at your QTH, PLEASE INCLUDE THAT INFORMATION AS WELL. The information you provide will be of value to all OSCAR enthusiasts. /EX
